I cannot believe that we are only one month away from Margo’s second birthday. It seems like just yesterday that I nuzzled our teeny five pounder in my arms. It has been an amazing and most fulfilling journey. Margo is a hoot… this girl has some serious personality! She continues to grow and evolve into a big toddler on a daily basis.
Margo is now speaking in 3-5 word sentences. She doesn’t put words together in the correct order always, but she can usually verbally communicate what she wants, like, “Margo jump on bed” or “Mama, Margo room” meaning she wants me to go play in her room. It is great because she is able to start telling me when she is hungry, her ear or something hurts or she needs something. Her saying her name is a recent development as well. All of a sudden, she just started saying her name and recognized that she is Margo. Now she uses her name in almost every sentence. It is so cute! She can understandably sing most of the ABC’s and has not mastered counting, but is aware of and will tell me when she has two things.
Margo has also developed a love of baby dolls. I never liked baby dolls, so it is a little unexpected. She wants to sleep with all of them in her bed, carries them around, rocks them and sings, “Rock-a-Bye Baby”, gives them “treats”, etc… I think it reveals an innate caring and nurturing side and I think it is so sweet to see her love and kiss on her babies. She also still loves to dance and her new favorite song/activity is “Ring a Round the Rosy”. She loves to spin in circles and make herself dizzy and she loves to cheer for herself, and is such a proud girl when she knows she has done something good!
Our girl is still a great sleeper but an early riser, which I would really like to change, but I think it is just inevitable. It doesn’t matter what time we put her to bed, she still wakes up at the rooster’s crow and actually usually wakes up earlier the later we put her to bed. She is eating better than my last post, but is still very picky. It really bothers me that she won’t eat her fruits and veggies anymore, except apples, beans, asparagus, sometimes grapes or peas. She loves the typical kid food, such as fish sticks, peanut butter sandwiches, pizza and cheese. I still offer her the other stuff and give her a well balanced meal, but usually the good stuff goes untouched. I wish I had never introduced those other things to her, but I don't really know how I would have avoided it forever.
We also had our 1st real, MAJOR temper tantrum this month. Poor Cary had to deal with 15 minutes of wailing after she didn’t want to come inside. I have three discipline books on my bedside table and we have started time out, but Margo is so good the majority of the time that it is hard to be consistent. She usually thinks time out is funny or will just listen and go sit in her spot without any tears which makes me think it is not making that big of an impression on her.
All in all, we are just coasting with Margo as we near the two year mark. She is truly funny, laughs all of the time, is so sweet and affectionate, showering everyone with hugs and kisses, and is a little dream come true! I count my blessings everyday to have such a beautiful, wonderful, sweet spirited child!
